Markham tells his childd that he is coming home soom. He tells him about the reading he did at the Aked's Congregational Church in front of 1400 people. Dr Aked said it was glorious. He will be doing it again for a highschool in Berekeley. He discusses a poet Kenna and that he separated from his wife Gertrude Boyle.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
